Cotton Branch Plantation was founded in 1990 when Ed Herring purchased land in southeast Franklin County, Mississippi. Named after the Cotton Branch that winds through the property, Cotton Branch Plantation consists of 3,000 acres of pine plantation, hardwood timber, and open pasture land. Herring chose Santa Gertrudis cattle since his aunt, Pauline Herring had been in the business for over 50 years. Herring made his first purchase in 1993 at the Fullen Farms Dispersal Sale and began building his herd. The breeding program included Grizzly 3308. Grizzly's genetics added depth, volume, and thickness to the herd. In 1997, Ed & Barbara left their town house in Meadville to build their dream home on the farm. Today, Cotton Branch Plantation includes Santa Gertrudis cattle, Quarter Horses, & timber and wildlife management.
